South End reads as an urban district: taller buildings, wider sidewalks, more people, more construction cranes, and a street wall that is largely new. The daily experience of the two is different enough that most people prefer one strongly.
South End is built along the LYNX Blue Line and the Rail Trail, giving it direct rail service to Uptown and a continuous pedestrian and cycling spine. Plaza Midwood relies on CATS bus service and the Gold Line streetcar on its western edge. Both are close to Uptown in distance; South End's rail makes car-free commuting more practical.
