The houses were designed before air conditioning, which means the front porch was the living room and the street was the social network. That geometry still works. Residents who use their porches meet their neighbors within a month; residents who do not can live here for years feeling like the neighborhood was oversold to them.
Older houses mean maintenance. Fifty-foot lots mean small yards. Streetcar-era platting means little off-street parking. Corridor proximity means weekend noise. These are not deal-breakers for the people who live here happily, but pretending they do not exist is how buyers end up unhappy.
People who would rather walk than drive, who like their neighbors close, who find a 1926 house charming rather than inconvenient, and who value being fifteen minutes from most of Charlotte. People who need four bedrooms, a three-car garage, and quiet at all hours are better served elsewhere, and saying so is not a criticism of either choice.
