Getting around

Getting Around Plaza Midwood

Plaza Midwood is one of a small number of Charlotte neighborhoods where not driving is a genuine option for parts of the day. It is not, however, a neighborhood where you can go without a car.

Transit

CATS bus service runs the Central Avenue corridor, and the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar operates along Hawthorne and Elizabeth Avenue toward Uptown and the east, putting rail within reach of the western blocks. Frequency and span of service change; check current schedules rather than assuming.

Driving and parking

Drive times to Uptown are short and reliable outside peak hours. Parking is the real friction: most historic houses have no garage and limited driveway space, and corridor-adjacent street parking is contested on weekend evenings, with permit restrictions on some blocks.

Bikes and walking

The grid is flat enough and dense enough for practical bike trips, and the Briar Creek Greenway provides a car-free route south. Sidewalks are continuous through most of the historic residential streets — an inheritance from the streetcar era that most of Charlotte does not share.
