What Kilborne Park is
Kilborne Park is at 2600 Kilborne Drive, Charlotte 28205. The directory entry here calls it a small pocket park, but county-related listings describe a much larger facility of about 49 acres with a multipurpose field, a softball field, a playground, tennis courts, a skate park, a picnic shelter and several trails. That is a clear conflict, and the listing source is a family-activity site rather than the county, so confirm the size and amenities on the county's park page. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation lists Kilborne among six neighborhood parks with free public wireless internet, and it has an active Kilborne Park Improvements project page. The park is also home to Kilborne TPC, an eighteen-hole disc golf course the Professional Disc Golf Association lists as established in 1992 and as a 1997 and 2012 world championship site. The course description says fairways are mulched and cut through woods.
Layout and use
Based on the PDGA course entry, the disc golf course is a wooded, mostly flat layout with each hole secluded from the others, and its first tee is at the end of a sidewalk at the back corner of the parking lot. The same listing says the course has concrete tees and tee signs and is free to play. The tennis courts, fields and playground described by family-activity listings are separate uses, and the improvement project may change them, so check the county project page for what is new or under construction. Because the park holds both a disc golf course and sports facilities, foot traffic is mixed. Disc golfers should keep clear of trails and picnic areas, and walkers should stay alert on the wooded paths. From Plaza Midwood
Kilborne Drive runs east of the neighborhood core, and the park is reached by car or bike from Central Avenue and Eastway Drive. The PDGA directions describe approaching via Eastway Drive and turning onto Kilborne Drive, with the entrance about half a mile along. The city's Central, Albemarle and Shamrock neighborhood program lists a completed Kilborne Drive streetscape and an active Central, Kilborne and Norland pedestrian and bicycle improvements project, so the approach is under active planning. Walking from the Plaza Midwood core is long, but nearer neighbors can reach it on foot. There is no direct greenway link, and Eastway Regional Recreation Center is the nearest large indoor option. Verify parking and hours on the county page, particularly during disc golf tournaments, when the lot can be heavily used.

Green space in Plaza Midwood works as an extension of the front porch: short, frequent, social visits rather than destination trips. Kilborne Park is used most heavily in the early morning and the hour before sunset, and its edges are among the most sought-after addresses in the immediate area.
